Description
In Sunset Ripples I have tried to capture the last of the sun's fiery rays reflected on shallow waters. This work is a compilation of many layers of a photograph of an old shell and is part of my 'Trash To Treasure' collection.
I found this shell on a beach on Cozumel, it is old and broken with boreholes and calcium deposits, probably from marine worms, each fragile layer exposed. Lying on sand made of millions of tiny pieces of shell worn down by the sea, I was reminded once again that there is beauty in everything, if you spare a little time to look.
Seashells are the hard outer protective layer of marine invertebrates; those most commonly found washed up on beaches are from mollusks. Shells from other marine animals such as sea urchins (tests) are far more fragile.
