Mixed media work with textured backgound showing a group of giraffes with a new baby. Ink,acrylic,gel and parchment on canvas.
The giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) is an African even-toed ungulate mammal, the tallest living terrestrial animal and the largest ruminant. Its species name refers to its camel-like appearance and the patches of color on its fur. Its chief distinguishing characteristics are its extremely long neck and legs, its horn-like ossicones, and its distinctive coat patterns. It is classified under the family Giraffidae, along with its closest extant relative, the okapi. The nine subspecies are distinguished by their coat patterns.
The giraffe's scattered range extends from Chad in the north to South Africa in the south, and from Niger in the west to Somalia in the east. Giraffes usually inhabit savannas, grasslands, and open woodlands. Their primary food source is acacia leaves, which they browse at heights most other herbivores cannot reach. Giraffes are prey...

I was born in Wales and now live in California having had the good fortune to visit most of Europe and some of America along the way. I find almost everything around me to be an inspiration. I work mostly in pencil and acrylics but I will experiment with any medium to achieve the effects I desire. I love to draw animals, from pets to wildlife. Some of my portraits are quite silly intended to bring a smile, others have a more serious message. My 'Barely There' collection of mixed media works represent a few of the fast disappearing exotic species. I often work with minimal colour palette but occasionally go all out.
