Description
This piece came about when playing with images of an acrylic cell painting, the myth of Phaethon losing control of the sun- chariot and horses immediately came to mind.
Phaethon Greek Myth
Phaethon was the son of Helius and Rhode, he constantly asked his father for permission to drive the sun-chariot. He wanted to impress his sisters Prote and Clymene and one morning Helius agreed. Phaethon was not strong enough to control the fiery horses and the chariot that carried the sun across the sky each day veered off course. First tearing a gash in the sky that became the Milky Way and then plunging too close to the earth setting much of it on fire. Enraged, Zeus killed him with a thunderbolt and he fell into the river Po, his grieving sisters were transformed into poplar trees standing on its banks.
