Inspired by the work of the Small Steps Charity UK who provide emergency aid, shoes and food to children and communities living on municipal rubbish dumps around the world. They also provide support for children to take steps into education and adults into employment.
This work is based on a photograph of Pata Rat which is 10km downtown from Cluj in Romania. There are over 1500 people living on this 18 hectare dumpsite. 356 families were forcibly evicted from their homes to this area.
Now part of my 'Trash to Treasure' series, this abstract shows a large landfill where the sky is almost as full of birds as the ground is filled with trash. Any profits from sales will be donated to Small Steps Project.
I was born in Wales and now live in California having had the good fortune to visit most of Europe and some of America along the way. I find almost everything around me to be an inspiration. I work mostly in pencil and acrylics but I will experiment with any medium to achieve the effects I desire. I love to draw animals, from pets to wildlife. Some of my portraits are quite silly intended to bring a smile, others have a more serious message. My 'Barely There' collection of mixed media works represent a few of the fast disappearing exotic species. I often work with minimal colour palette but occasionally go all out. It all depends on my mood. I think my motto if I had one would be 'You're never too old to learn.' I've just...
