Description
This digital manipulation, from a photograph of snowdrops in my mother’s garden, was inspired by the bed time stories she told. In one, the Fairies used magic snowdrops as lampposts and lighting for their winter balls.
Galanthus nivalis, common snowdrop
Native to Europe and the Middle East, the genus Galanthus is found in Spain, France and Germany in the west through to Iran in the east. In other parts of Europe (Norway, Sweden, Great Britain, Belgium and the Netherlands) as well as in eastern Canada and the United States it has become naturalized
In many countries it is illegal to collect bulbs from the wild where the species is threatened.
