One of a series of abstract works, based on digitally manipulated photographs taken at The Valley of Fire, Nevada.
The many layers in this piece were manipulated to give a surreal feeling, the eyes of Hades watching Persephone as she waits for Spring and freedom.
In Greek mythology, Persephone, also called Kore is the daughter of Zeus and the harvest goddess Demeter, and is the queen of the underworld. Homer describes her as the formidable, venerable majestic queen of the underworld, who carries into effect the curses of men upon the souls of the dead. Persephone was abducted by Hades, the god-king of the underworld. The myth of her abduction represents her function as the personification of vegetation, which shoots forth in spring and withdraws into the earth after harvest; hence, she is also associated with spring as well as the fertility of vegetation.

About Stephanie Grant
I was born in Wales and now live in California having had the good fortune to visit most of Europe and some of America along the way. I find almost everything around me to be an inspiration. I work mostly in pencil and acrylics but I will experiment with any medium to achieve the effects I desire. I love to draw animals, from pets to wildlife. Some of my portraits are quite silly intended to bring a smile, others have a more serious message. My 'Barely There' collection of mixed media works represent a few of the fast disappearing exotic species. I often work with minimal colour palette but occasionally go all out.
