A woodland area found near Caerleon in S. Wales. Many years ago, people practiced coppicing here, but now it has become something of a wilderness. However, with a little digital magic, dead trees with split and crumbling bark and branches with dried, withered leaves can be brought to life. Add a little color, and a fantasy forest of blue trees with pink, orange, purple and red leaves invites you to enter.
Coppicing is an English term for a traditional method of woodland management which takes advantage of the fact that many trees make new growth from the stump or roots if cut down. In a coppiced wood, young tree stems are repeatedly cut down to near ground level.
I was born in Wales and now live in California having had the good fortune to visit most of Europe and some of America along the way. I find almost everything around me to be an inspiration. I work mostly in pencil and acrylics but I will experiment with any medium to achieve the effects I desire. I love to draw animals, from pets to wildlife. Some of my portraits are quite silly intended to bring a smile, others have a more serious message. My 'Barely There' collection of mixed media works represent a few of the fast disappearing exotic species. I often work with minimal colour palette but occasionally go all out. It all depends on my mood. I think my motto if I had one would be 'You're never too old to learn.' I've just...
