Description
As soon as I started working on this abstract, a manipulation of photographs of a wooded area, I could see the shape of a kneeling man and of a woman in the trees. The creases and folds in what could so easily be a cloak folded over her arm, and the mystical forest setting, brought the tale of Arthur to mind.
According to Arthurian legend, Arthur is warned by the Lady of the Lake to refuse the gift of a mantle from his sister. Instead he should ask the bearer of the gift to wear it. The unfortunate servant bearing the cloak puts it on and “ forthwithall she fell down dead and never more spake word after and burnt to coals. From Le Morte D’Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory.
